Spaces available

Tuesday 10th April 2012

2pm - 5pm

Hosted and Presented by Melanie Franklin, Maven Training, London

This is a highly interactive session where participants will have the opportunity to debate the links between best practice in project, programme, risk and portfolio management and the successful implementation of change.

Session 1: 2pm – 3.15pm

To kick things off we will review what transformational change means, and what it involves including a detailed examination of the processes and activities associated with a business change lifecycle and the integration between the project and the business change lifecycles.

Participants will be asked to share their understanding of transformational change and how their organisations plan, monitor and control change activities alongside business as usual.

Session 2: 3.30pm – 4.45pm

In this session we will look more closely at the activities that are involved in successfully implementing change and where responsibility for these actions is best placed between those in project and programme roles and those working within line management hierarchies.

Participants will be asked to share their ideas for how a widening of the project lifecycle that extends from project delivery into implementation of change affects the traditional role of project manager, and how this role change affects how we manage programmes and portfolios.

5pm – Drinks and networking

Spaces available

Presented by Nick Fewings, The Colour Works

Hosted by The Natural History Museum, London

12.30 - 4.30pm

Whether you lead or are part of a project team, your success and that of the project will depend on the effective relationships that you build with your team and stakeholders both internal and external to your organisation. Only with a combination of both technical and relationship skills will you succeed. This workshop will provide you with tools, techniques and knowledge about your behavioural style, strengths you bring to the team, your decision making and communication style and how to harness these to the benefit of yourself, your team and your stakeholders to make your project a success.

  • Session 1: Brief experiential history of human behaviours
  • Session 2: What are you like? – interactive session exploring differences, strengths and challenges
  • Session 3: How others may perceive situations and people
  • Session 4: Effective communication – tools and techniques to support increased effectiveness
  • Session 5: How differences in behaviours need to be taken into account when managing change
  • Session 6: Wrap-up and Q&As

For those new to project management: Quite often people new to project management are trained in project management methodologies however rarely are trained in the behavioural aspects that are crucial.

For more experienced project managers: Experienced Project Managers will find the learning beneficial as it may highlight areas that are critical to the success of their project that they may not have considered before.

For decision makers and senior management: An understanding of how to harness the skills of your team and how to make best use of your leadership style is always of value and we can never learn enough as leaders.
